Hola, Cusco.

The snow-capped mountains greeted us as we flew into this lovely Andean city.

Our hotel (La Residencia del Sol) is behind the Temple of the Sun and also overlooks a llama farm/ruins site right next door. Cusco feels like Cuenca only bigger and much busier. And surrounded by mountains.

room with a view... of llamas

Tomorrow we get a tour of the city and we also have a few days here between the hike and rafting, so today there is no need for crazy sightseeing like Lima. Instead, we are laying low, acclimating to the 11,000+ foot altitude and resting up.

At lunch Viki impressed the guide describing her 2600 mile PCT hike three years ago... This guide was born here and has been leading treks for 14 years - and he was impressed with her feat! Chevere. Still so proud of her. And glad to have a backup porter at my side in the mountains... Ha!
